Artemisian Heraldic Submission Instructions for Submitters
How to submit a name:
Figure out what name you want.
Articles on period names from several cultures can be found heraldry.sca.org/names, s-gabriel.org, and dmnes.org.
If you want a name from a culture not listed in these links, please contact a kingdom herald who will help you look for a heraldic expert on that culture. If an expert is found in the SCA, we will be happy to help you become a heraldic expert for your chosen culture.
Once you’ve chosen a name, write down where the name comes from, in the documentation block of the name submission form for Artemisia.
Make sure to include URLs or pictures of period records supporting each name element.
Fill out the rest of the form.
Give the form to your local herald.
If your local group does not currently have a herald, please give the form to your local seneschal.
If you live on Crown lands, please give the form to the herald of a local group.
Be prepared to answer questions. If you do not know the answer, do not be afraid to ask another Herald/Kingdom Officer. It’s a team effort.

Make sure you have a personal name submitted.
Figure out what armory you want.

If you want armory in the style of a culture not listed in these links, please contact a Kingdom herald; who will help you look for a heraldic expert on that culture. If no expert is found in the SCA, we will be happy to help you become a heraldic expert for your chosen culture.
Once you’ve got a design in mind, draw the outline on two copies of the device submission form for Artemisia.
Color in one of those two copies using standard heraldic colors.
If you are doing this on paper, the recommended media is Crayola classic permanent (non-washable) markers.
If you are doing this digitally, please draw the design on either the device template image or the badge template image. The recommended colors can be found on this simple color swatch or this color swatch with variants.
Give the forms to your local herald.
If your local group does not currently have a herald, please give the forms to your local seneschal.
If you live on Crown lands, please give the forms to the herald of a local group.
Be prepared to answer questions. If you do not know the answer, do not be afraid to ask another Herald/Kingdom Officer. It’s a team effort.

Draw up your design.
Draw it again.
Look at your design multiple times every day.
Draw it again.
Look at it again.
Draw it again.
Seriously, draw it again. This design will effectively be your name until you change it or you die. You will be reproducing this design a LOT.
If you get sick of it, make a new design.
Some DON’Ts of armory submitting:
Don’t use crayons or waxed pencils.
Don’t change the shield shape on the form.
Don’t use symbols closely associated with hate groups.
